Welcome to WordPress Wednesday! Weekly tips for new and established self-hosted WordPress users, designed to help you get the most out of your site. How to Turn Off WordPress Emoticons

Emoticons. Some people love them, some people hate them. Personally, I love a good bit of emoji for iOS or Android, but I find the WordPress style emoticons a bit too old-school and over the top, so I always turn them off whenever I start a new blog or develop a site for a client.

It may seem like a little thing, but it can really make a difference to the tone of your blog. If you prefer your smiley faces looking like this: :)  :(  :P  ;) than this: Screen Shot 2015-02-04 at 09.59.00 here’s how you can turn them off.

Go to Settings > Writing from the left hand menu. You’ll see this at the top:

Just make sure that first box is unticked and your smileys will remain as text. Simple! :)
