Bonjour, Blogger! : Daisy

What is your blog about?
Mostly lifestyle and beauty – all of the things I love. The blogs I read most are the ones where there are a variety of posts and topics covered. I like to share parts of my life, as well as my favourite beauty products!
Is this your first blog?
I started a couple of blogs before this one but they never really progressed past an initial post.
When did you start your current blog?
In May 2009 so a few years ago now! It was an interesting time to start as it was when beauty blogging and YouTube had just started to take off. I remember going to Body Shop event and it was all so new and exciting!
What made you do it?
I had just started my first proper job in academic publishing after leaving University and wanted to have another project where I could be more creative. I’ve always loved writing so a blog seemed like a perfect outlet.
What was your first blog post about?
It was a Malteaser Tray Bake recipe which still gets quite a few views and is a great sweet treat to make!
What do you think is the most useful tool to you as a blogger?
Definitely Twitter. My blog had definitely taken a backseat at the start of the year but I came back from holiday with a renewed enthusiasm and was excited to get posting properly again. I’ve found Twitter has been great for interacting with people and for promoting my posts.
Do people in your real life know about your blog?
If yes, has your blog helped you career wise?
My family and a few friends know about my blog. I have also talked about it in job interviews and have found it to be a great talking point – a blog is great for demonstrating your skills and passions. My current job involves merchandise and I think discussing my blog and how much I love products helped to get it!
What has been the one thing (blog post, project, etc) that you have been really proud of?
I’m proud of how long I’ve been writing my blog for. It’s been 5 years and I love looking back at old posts and seeing how my writing style and content has changed.
Where do you see your blog in a year?
I’d like to continue to have regular posts (I have posted a bit sporadically in the past and so am working to a blogging schedule at the moment!) and hopefully more readers.
What do you wish you knew when starting your blog?
A bit more about photography! At the start I didn’t appreciate how much a great photo added to a blog post and wish I’d included clearer, larger and more pleasing images. It’s all a learning curve though and I’ve definitely developed my photography skills!
What do you wish you know more about now?
HTML. Knowing how to code is such a useful skill!
How do you keep motivated to post?
By reading other people’s blogs. I love reading blogs and they really do inspire me. It’s also great when you see your readers growing- that is a huge motivator to keep posting.
Anything else you’d like to add?
Just how important it is to post regularly as people can then look forward to new content on your blog.
