Hopefully you wont have been affected by this, but this weekend, Instagram has been hit by spammers taking over legitimate accounts, posting images of fruit with a caption such as “Ever seen this stuff? I guess it’s super healthy. I’m giving it a try. I saw it on Dr. Oz’s show. Link is in my bio” and the bio being updated to a link about this fruit diet.
Instagram have been pretty quick to get this sorted, but if you’re worried, this attack has been password based, so make sure you change your password to something unique to Instagram (We’re sure you know the usual rules to make a good password, but if not, there’s a useful article from Google that will help you out!)
This spam attack wasn’t due to an application going rogue, but if you’re curious or worried about what’s got access to your Instagram account, just log into Instagram on the web (so on a desktop computer, not your phone), click “edit profile” then “manage applications”.
